Alyn and Deeside CLP notes:

  1. That a number of party disciplinary cases are being allowed to be played out and commented on publicly
  2. That some members are finding out of action being taken against them via the media instead of through the party

Alyn and Deeside CLP believes:

  1. As the Constituency Labour Party that was home to Carl Sargeant AM, who tragically took his own life whilst suspended from the Labour Party without being told of the allegations against him, we believe that it is totally unacceptable for elected officials and members to continue to have to find out about their disciplinary cases from third parties
  2. That members who face disciplinary action are entitled to be told of the case against them and the party rules which they are accused of breaking
  3. That it is totally unacceptable for the party leadership and various MPs to be parading around media studios talking about individual disciplinary cases whilst at the same time supporting the restriction of a CLPs right to discuss those very cases themselves
  4.  That party unity is important for the Party to be able to make progress and effectively challenge racism, fascism, antisemitism and harassment in whatever form this may take

Alyn and Deeside CLP resolves to:

  1. Condemn the playing out of individual disciplinary cases in the media
  2. Call for the leadership and the NEC to ensure that members under investigation are informed by the party appropriately and before the media
  3. Further call for the leadership and NEC to ensure that members who face disciplinary action are told of the accusation they face as soon as is practically possible
