Alyn and Deeside CLP notes that:

Welsh Labour is the only party in Wales which has delivered on its commitment to achieving gender balance in the Assembly Group and to promoting the role of women in politics.

2018 marks the centenary year of women’s suffrage – a defining moment for women’s rights in the UK.

Notes the fact that there is a female leader in the UK Parliament, the Scottish Parliament and the Northern Irish Assembly.

Regrets the fact that there has never been a female leader in Wales.

Welcomes the opportunity that the Democracy Review presents for grass roots members to engage in the process of electing a new leader of the Labour Party in Wales.

Alyn and Deeside CLP calls on the Labour Party in Wales to:

Undertake a commitment during the Democracy Review and the subsequent Special Conference to ensure that there is a choice in terms of gender equality on the ballot paper by ensuring a woman is on the ballot.
